Admission Requirements

A grade point average of 3.0 (B average) for both undergraduate and graduate level coursework is preferred. The Graduate School has developed comparable guidelines for grading systems used in other countries.

Applicants with a bachelor's degree (or the equivalent) are, except in a few special cases, considered only for admission to the MS program. The following coursework is considered the minimum preparation for admission to the MS program: micro and macroeconomic theory at the intermediate level, basic statistics, calculus, and linear algebra. Applicants to the PhD program should also have completed courses in micro and macroeconomic theory at the MS level and mathematical statistics. Students lacking background in economics or quantitative methods may be required to complete coursework deficiencies before entering the program.

Graduate Record Examination scores are required for all students, domestic and foreign.

A minimum TOEFL score of 79 (Internet), 213 (computer) or 550 (paper) is also required for all international applicants whose native language is not English. This requirement is waived for applicants who have completed a degree within the last two years from a recognized institution of higher learning in the United States.
